Röyk was founded in 2010 when the first product, a hoodie with a unique, patented design, won first prize in the innovation competition 'Innovation for Extremes'. The award received a lot of attention from both the press and retailers and in connection with it the Röyk brand was created with a focus on functional and sustainable products for skiing and outdoor life. The name Röyk comes from the expression “röjåk” which was popular among Swedish “ski bums” in the French ski resort of Val d'Isère in the early 2000s.
Röyk has sustainability in its DNA and, together with Filippa K, worked to reclaim all the Swedish wool that is thrown away or burned. From that project came their groundbreaking Norrby Wool Sweater. They were also the first in the industry to manufacture outerwear in 100% bio-based materials from castor seeds. Röyk's iconic Badland Merino Jacket has been awarded with major sustainability awards such as the ISPO Eco Achievement Award and the Scandinavian Outdoor Sustainability Award.
