Hanwag is a German shoe and boot company. The company started its manufacturing in 1921 in Bavaria, where it is still located today.

Hanwag was founded by Hans Wagner. He was the son of the shoemaker Johann Wagner. Together with his brothers Adolf and Lorenz, he was apprenticed to his father. The brothers also started shoe factories. Hans Wagner also trained in Munich. He founded his company in Vierkirchen in 1921. During the 1920s, the first mountain boots and also the first ski boots in leather began to be made. In 1940, machines began to be used in production. After World War II The company has grown and had success with shoe models for hang gliding and paragliding, among other things. They have made a number of models for mountain hiking.
