The post-war period was tough for many in Japan, especially for young people. A man named Kihachiro Onitsuka wanted to help the young people of his hometown of Kobe to a brighter future. So in 1949, he left his job to found the sports brand Onitsukas Tiger, which later changed its name to Asics. He was determined that sports could help people gain better self-esteem, but for that to be possible, good sports equipment was required.
